Looking to install a corner sofa in your living room? Furniture Theory tips to find the perfect layout and enhance your living room with a corner sofa
The corner sofa is undoubtedly the star of interiors and has become a must in terms of furnishing. And for good reason, it is comfortable, encourages conviviality and discussions and is conducive to relaxation thanks to the large seating space provided. How to optimally integrate your sofa into your living room?
Where to install your corner sofa?
The corner sofa offers several possibilities in terms of location. The final arrangement will often depend on the size and configuration of the premises.
Against the wall or in a corner, a great classic
Placing your corner sofa against a wall is a great classic. In this case, it is customary to position the longer part against the wall and facing the television or projection screen. The latter is often the largest in the living room. For a harmonious result, be careful to choose the position of the corner carefully.
Another classic location for the corner sofa is at the junction of two walls. The sofa then completely follows the shape of the room. This solution is best for narrow living rooms.
In the middle of the living room, to delimit the space
In large open spaces, where the kitchen, dining room and living room blend together, the arrangement of the corner sofa can be used to visually delimit the spaces. To do this, place the longest part of the sofa with its back to the kitchen/dining room area. To reinforce the "partitioning" of the living room space, use a large rug on the floor. If you have a very large space, you can also add a low piece of furniture behind the sofa to accentuate the desired effect. The latter should not exceed the height of the sofa, otherwise it will "weigh down" the decoration of the room.
In this living room, for example, the sofa was used to separate the dining area from the living room area. When it comes to creating space, the corner sofa can also be used to create a corridor. In practice, this means leaving space behind the sofa to facilitate access to a piece of furniture or to avoid people walking into the sofa's field of vision. To make it easier to come and go on a daily basis, make sure to leave a space at least equivalent to the width of a door (around 70 cm).
Place your corner sofa with its back to the window
An alternative to be preferred for sofa models with a low back so as not to obstruct the view to the outside and the propagation of light. Be careful if you have a television screen, the light is likely to interfere with watching your films. However, this problem can be easily solved by installing curtains.
